About me

In the past I’ve worked as a barista, tech support rep, financial advisor, learning and development specialist, and data analyst. For the past few years I’ve been enjoying using code and automation to solve all manner of problems and eliminate “dissatisfying” situations or processes.

My formal education is in business administration and finance, and I completed Lighthouse Labs' Web Development Bootcamp in 2017 before starting my own data-focused learning. A few years, some great opportunities, and a ton of personal learning later and I’m a platform engineer!

I’m also a massive coffee snob, rocket enthusiast, motorcyclist, and amateur astrophotographer.

Work stuff

Currently, I work as a Platform Engineer at Bench Accounting, based in Vancouver, B.C. My team builds, maintains, and secures the infrastructure that our services run on, and we generally try to make life easier for our larger team of engineers.

We are a single-cloud AWS shop running our services on a combination of EKS, and various managed serverless products. We deploy our services via Github Action CI/CD pipelines, provision and maintain our cloud resources using Terraform, and monitor it all with Datadog.

Most recently, my team has been working to migrate from an inherited “legacy” platform to more modern infrastructure we’ve created consistent with AWS' Well Architected Framework, which has included migrating from self-hosted Kubernetes to EKS, and decommissioning our legacy deployment apparatus built in Jenkins
